Mobility
Cadence Pilates is based on the premise of a linear progression through fitness. There are many aspects of fitness and physical training. At Cadence Pilates we utilise a science driven model based on the biomechanics of the human body and the necessity to promote warm up and cool down. All human bodies need flexibility, foundational activation of core muscles, along with general strength and conditioning.
Physiotherapists specialise in the biomechanics of the human body and as such, at Cadence Pilates we believe that in order to move well, all people need a basic level of mobility. Mobility is a focus on both joint mobility through the capsules of the synovial joints of the body as well as the musculoskeletal system.
Activation
Activation creates a focus on the core system of the body and builds on the mobility component, as without good mobility, activation of the core systems is difficult. Many people assume when the core is mentioned that it is all about the abdominal core.
The abdominal core is an activation system for the pelvis and lumbar spine but there are also many other activation systems throughout the body such as the rotator cuff for the shoulder, small gluteal muscles for the hip and VMO for the knee, to mention a few.
Strength
Following activation systems comes strength and conditioning of the global muscles of the body. Many exercise models assume that mobility and activation have been trained and in doing so, miss the foundational basics of exercise. This can lead to inefficient use of the musculoskeletal system and most often to dysfunction, injury and loss of potential within the system to gain an elite training mechanism.
At Cadence Pilates all Pilates Classes are supervised by certified physiotherapist and committed Pilates instructor.

Looking For Pre or Post Natal Pilates? You’re In The Right Place.
As Physiotherapists, we are able to guide you safely through your Pilates classes whilst pregnant and in the post natal period. However, we do have some guidelines to ensure your safety and care throughout your pregnancy and to assist your recovery post partum.
Pre Natal Pilates Plan
01. You are welcome to attend Cadence Pilates classes from early pregnancy up to 12 weeks as per your normal routine. We encourage you to inform our instructors as soon as you become aware of your pregnancy so we can ensure you remain safe whilst exercising during the first trimester.
02. At 12 weeks you will need to book in for a 1:1 assessment with one of our experienced physiotherapists. During this appointment we will go through the pregnancy safe modifications and exercise recommendations to ensure the safety of yourself and your growing baby. Please also provide written exercise clearance from the medical professional in charge of your pre natal care (obstetrician, GP, midwife) at this appointment.
03. Beyond the 12 week appointment, you are required to attend further physiotherapy 1:1 consultations at 20, 30 and 35 weeks. Complimentary check-in phone conversations with one of our experienced physiotherapists are also offered at 16 and 25 weeks. Dependent on the outcome of these regular assessments, you may continue to attend Cadence Pilates classes until 37 weeks of pregnancy.
During these check-ins, it may be recommended for you to attend Cadence Refine which provides a more specialised, individualised approach towards exercise under the direct supervision from our physiotherapists in a small group setting.
For new members Cadence Pilates classes may be started beyond 12 weeks. To do this you will need to book in a 1:1 physiotherapy assessment to determine your suitability.
Post Natal Pilates Plan
6 Weeks – 6 Months Post Natal
We recommend you commence with our Cadence Refine program. Book your 1:1 physiotherapy assessment once cleared for exercise by your medical professional. Find out more HERE.
6+ Months Post Natal
If you are further than 6 months post natal with no significant complications you can commence Cadence Pilates classes (after an Intro Session).
